[PW] native americans leaving reservations

I am having trouble coming up with search terms for this, let alone a
place to ask them.

 

A professor wants to know when the restriction which forced American
Indians to live on tribal lands was lifted.

 

I can find lots of information about people voluntarily leaving the
reservations, but nothing about when they were first legally able to do
so.  The BIA website seems to have all sorts of restrictions on it.

 

Any help will be much appreciated - thanks in advance!
