Allen,
Taking another look at the 1910 US Census - also found in Niles, Berrien,
Michigan: at 1303 South Third St, family 342/351 lines 61-62:
Leonide Keatinge [note the census taker's spelling of Keating], male white
age 51 marriage#1, married 15 years, immigrated _1880_ [very clearly 1880],
occupation: "own income", owns a house free, bp England, parents' bp England
Kathleen Keating female white age 41 marriage#1 married 15 years, no
children, bp Michigan, father's bp Ohio, mother's bp New York
The California death record is indeed for Leonide Leonidas Keatinghe b
1868-10-17 male bp REST [usually foreign born] d Los Angeles county, 1945 09
11 at age 76 (my father in law's father is a Robert Leonidas Hess, Jr).
There are immigration records for a few Leonard Keatings, some from
Ireland.
I first wondered if his last name was a hyphenated name that wouldn't fit
in the death record box; I've seen some truncated. Also noting the 1910 US
Census for Niles, Michigan, wondering if the final "e" became a part of both
his names.
Did not find an obit in the Los Angeles newspaper index on Ancestry.com in
1945. Wonder if he was traveling when he died.
There is a record in FamilySearch, the Mormon genealogical website for
Kathleen Ives: married Leonida Keating 08 May 1892 Niles, Berrien, Michigan.
No further information that direction.
Cheers!
David
