Subject: [PW] Help with a Riddle/Nursery Rhyme

A reader has sent this to my column, asking for help in solving the
riddle, which dates back at least 100 years, maybe more. If anyone can
help with a citation and the answer, it will be very much appreciated.

Down in a dark dungeon I saw a brave knight All bridled, all saddled,
all fit for the the fight Gilt was his shield, bent was his bow, Thrice
I've told you his name and yet you don't know.
(as noted in Pinafore Palace: A Book of Rhymes for the Nursery by
Wiggin and Smith, 1907)

If anyone has access to JSTOR: Ozark Mountain Riddles, it might be
included thus:
Down in th' dark dungeon That sets a brave knight, All bridled, etc.,
etc.

Thanks in advance for any assistance, and happy holidays to all fellow
W at MBATS!
