Allen,
I searched for immediate information on both Oehlert and Ehlert spellings;
the majority of Ehlert spellings that appear on Ancestry.com are from US
Census and vital records; the majority of Oehlert spellings are from Europe.
I have only an American subscription, so can't access the European records,
which include German city directories.
I know that some public libraries have subscriptions through HeritageQuest.
Feliz Navidad!
David
