[PW] Children's book, Volcano, Japanese Soldier

Well, the Danny Dunn books were just about my first chapter books. I
think that I have read them all and this plot does not sound familiar.

I do vaguely recall a story set on Ceylon or nearby, I think, before we
started to call it Sri Lanka. I don't recall a volcano but there was a
storm that was going to swamp the island. Perhaps by Arthur C. Clarke.
I can't remember enough of the plot to say if there was a Japanese
soldier.

Probably not what you want but I thought that I'd put this into the mix.

As I do periodically, I'm reposting this request hoping to find
a
book I read when I was much younger -- I think in the early 1970s.
What I remember of the book, which may be slightly scrambled, is as
follows:

	1) Takes place on a tropical island, like Hawaii; may or may not
have
actually BEEN Hawaii.

	2) Protagonists are teenagers; I think two boys and two girls,
althought it COULD be two boys and one girl.

	3) The protagonists, either lost or exploring in the jungle,
encounter a Japanese soldier, very old, who's still fighting WWII.
They are captured by him, partly I think because one of the girls is
injured and unable to run.

	4) Eventually they make their escape from the soldier, in a jeep
or
jeep-like vehicle.

	5) The climax of the story comes as they are escaping by driving
down
an old lava tube, and the island's volcano has just reawakened. They
have to out-drive the lava down the tube (Hawaiian and similar lavas
can flow VERY fast) and get out JUST before the lava catches them.

This was, I think, during the era I was reading a lot of Danny
Dunn
books, but I don't *THINK* it was one of those.

	Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
