[PW] Keeping books in a hot and humid climate

Folks,
I hope this is an appropriate question for this forum. If so, I'd
welcome any advice from those acquainted with handling books.
At the end of the year I have to move to Barbados for 3-4 years (spouse
is being posted there) from Washington DC.
My personal library comprises many hundreds of books. None of them are
rare or particularly valuable, and many are basic paperbacks, but it
would be fairly costly (and tiresome) to rebuild the whole collection.
Ideally I'd like to ship all of them to Barbados, but I'm concerned
about what four years of heat, humidity and salt air might do to them. I
could put all or most of them in storage here, but the fact is I like
having them around.
Any comments or advice?
Many thanks.
