Could it be this book written by a former writer for David Letterman?
Published in 2006, 28-year-old Rodney Rothman spends time in a Florida
retirement community:

Early Bird: A Memoir of Premature Retirement by Rodney Rothman

Subject: [PW] Question about a book

Hi all,

Thanks for the suggestions, but none were what he is looking for, although
he was going to pass on the AARP article, the Jean-Dominique Bauby and the
Art Buchwald book titles to a friend who was looking for something similar.

It was not fiction (so Water for Elephants was out)...definitely an
autobiography...and the person had been a resident of a nursing home or
assisted living center, not a staff member. If something else strikes you,
let me know, we're still looking.

Jocelyn
