Hi -
A patron recently emailed me the following question:
"I am searching for a physician who reportedly lived and practiced in
Paris, France in 1940-1946. I have heard only his last name as Achildy
(or perhaps a variation of that spelling). He owned and operated a
clinic and a spa, and was known for his 'hydrotherapy' at the time. I
searched the web to access a 1941 Paris Telephone Directory without
success. I think that the University of Texas might have a collection of
old French telephone directories. If I could get my hands on such a
telephone directory I could verify whether the fellow existed (or at
least resided in Paris) at the time. Any assistance -including
suggestions- will be appreciated."
I'm almost certain that he has the name wrong. I searched Google,
Jstor, and ProQuest Historical Newspapers without any hits. Is there
anyone who can help me with this question or has access to French
telephone books from the forties? Thank you in advance.
