Susan,
Have you read Devil in the White City, by Erik Larson? It is all about the
World's Fair, and although Ferris is not one of the main people Larson talks
about, I do seem to remember him saying that Ferris was inexperienced and
trying to make a name for himself. Maybe there just isn't much out there
about his earlier career before the Ferris wheel.
