Since your email address indicates U of Chicago, I
assume you're talking about public domain *in the US*
here.  Since the article you want to reproduce was
published in 1921, surely it (like essentially
everything copyright previous to 1923) IS in public
domain in the US, regardless of the irrelevancy of
the author's date of death?

Insert usual "I am not a lawyer and do not profuse to
