This is for me. I'm trying to identify a children's book I read in the late 1960s/early 1970s. It was fiction, an easy reader, not (I think) a chapter book, with simple illustrations in browns and greens.
The book was about a dinosaur couple trying to protect their egg from a menacing pterodactyl. They were referred to as "Mr and Mrs Brontosaurus" or something similar. After being driven away several times, the pterodactyl dives down at high speed -- and smashes against the egg-shaped stone that the parents had placed in the nest.
The first line of the book is something like, "Once upon a time, 150 million years ago..."
I don't know why, but the book has been sticking in my mind. None of the children's librarians I work with have been able to identify it Can anyone here scratch my mental itch?
