Helen Keller, who became a famous public speaker and author in spite of being
deaf and blind from infancy.

Genghis Khan was the son of a minor Mongol tribal chieftan, which gave him
some advantages over the average Joe Mongol, but I'd still say he was
pretty inexperienced at first in his "occupation" of conquering much of
the known world (who wouldn't be?), and he certainly excelled at that...
