Hmm. . . there was someone in a related occupation who excelled:
Bartholomew Roberts was apparently a merchant sailor when his ship was
captured by pirates. Roberts was forced into piracy but apparently took to
the life with gusto, and was elected captain of the ship a few weeks later.
Some have called him the most successful pirate of all (CEOs of some large
corporations excepted).
