[PW] Politically Incorrect Town Names?

The Queensland Government did a list at one stage of places whose names should be changed. It didn't actually print the list, but expressed a guideline in the Queensland Place Names Act 1994. It wasn't just towns. I recall it because it ran into some strife. Some towns flat-out refused: the mayor of Gin-Gin for example was quite vocal in his condemnation of the idea ("Gin" was a settler word for an aboriginal woman, and is avoided now due to racist connotations.)

Subject: [PW] Politically Incorrect Town Names?

Hello. I was wondering if there anyone knew of some one-stop shopping for information like this? This came to mind while I was looking through "The Lure of Roads in New Mexico" (1921) which was decorated with a swastika (not horribly uncommon) and which described a town named "Swastika". The town changed its name "at the outbreak of the war", and then drifted I guess, its way to ghost-towndom. Apart from having a run through some old gazetteers, does anyone know if this data has been collected? Thanks, John Ptak
