Suzy Platt mentioned a report from the Congressional Research Service
that may help answer Paul Burnam's question. Not all CRS reports are
freely available on the web, but this one is, thanks to OpenCRS, a
nonprofit clearinghouse for CRS reports:

Subject: [PW] Laws Enacted by Congress
Paul Burnam wanted the number of public laws enacted.
This has been answered, but you may also be interested to know that
there is a Congressional Research Service report on this subject.
It is no. 96-727, "Congressional Statistics: Bills Introduced and
Laws Enacted,1947-2004," rev. January 13, 2005. You can get a copy
from your Representative or Senator. This goes through the end of
the 108th Congress, and I imagine that it will be updated after this
Congress ends in early January 2007. It's only 3 pages, but it's a
very handy list. I'm sorry it took me so long to reply, but I'm
retired and only get in every once in a while. -- Suzy Platt
