Subject: [PW] Unsweetened Plum Pie
Hi All,
I haven't been subscribed to the list since it was Stumpers, and I've
really missed it! I am the patron here, so no hurry:
I just bought a house with a plum tree laden with ripe fruit. My husband
keeps talking about a pie his mother used to make. It had a single pastry
crust, and was unsweetened. The family would spoon sugar on the individual
slices. My mother-in-law was a native New Yorker, and she would have made
the pie in the 50s and 60s.
Apparently, the sugar thing was not a recipe error, since she always made
the pie this way. I'm thinking it might be a regional delicacy, or perhaps
it's got a special name that I haven't hit on, since I haven't been able to
turn anything up yet.
Are any of you familiar with a pie like this? My husband hasn't SAID it
would make his life complete if I make the pie, but since he brings it up
every time we talk about the plum tree, I know it would make him very happy.
Thanks for any help.

Dishonesty in government is the business of every citizen.... It is not
enough to do your own job. There's no particular virtue in that. Democracy
isn't a gift. It's a responsibility.
