I'm looking for the Hayden Carruth poem that runs (or includes):
So be it. I am
a wholeness I'll never know.
Maybe that's the best.
He wrote a lot of haiku, so this could be the whole thing -- or it could be part of something bigger. We need the title of the poem and the publication info, or at least to know what collection it's in. (A faculty member wants to cite it in the book he's writing and can't remember where he found it originally).
We've Googled, and searched in JSTOR & Project Muse & EBSCO's Literary Research Center. We've also read through Collected Longer Poems, Collected Shorter Poems, Asphalt Georgics, and Doctor Jazz, and used Amazon's Search Inside the Book for those books, plus for Scrambled Eggs and Whiskey.
Does anyone have any ideas?
