I haven't seen anything for my hometown - San Francisco - yet, so here's
a couple that look comprehensive:

http://sfpl.lib.ca.us/sfplonline/kids/familyffun.htm

http://www.mustseesanfrancisco.com/attractions.htm

(the second one is a commercial site, but does have a comprehensive list
of attractions)

That's it for kid-oriented ones. You'll probably want to warn your
friend about any links to the Castro neighborhood, just in case the
local community standards are different than ours.

This is outstanding-- thank you so much, and thanks to all of the nice
librarians and researchers who have helped. You have no idea how
helpful this is-- when you just have one computer and a dial up
connection, knowing which URLs to plug in can be a time-saver for sure.
I am gonna start sending my friend post-cards of some of the different
cities where I have worked, and between the internet sites and other
pictures, the kids ought to get a very good idea about where some
interesting things are. You wombats are the best!
