If the children are interested in cowboys and Indians, the Autry National Center at http://www.autry-museum.org/ includes the Museum of the American West and the Southwest Museum.  (Yes, the "Autry" is Gene.)  The Southwest Museum specializes in the Native Americans of the Southwest.
