Perhaps you'd have better luck searching for Berber vernacular architecture. Berber architecture has been ignored by most western writers, but this is beginning to change. In the picutures displayed at the above site, notice the peculiar/distinctive shape of the roof vaults. Perhaps this is what HDT was speaking of.
