Check this website for an interesting paper on skullcaps. On page 20, it
lists the Italian terms.

But don't discount the French/Italian 'calotte' (mentioned earlier in
the same document)

Subject: [PW] Alexandre Dumas and Richelieu retry

Hi all

This for me. I am doing the monthly trivia quiz and am completely
stumped by this one and if you think it too trivial to answer, I
understand. I usually have no trouble with this sort of question, just
Google the phrase and if that doesn't work try various parts of the
quote. Well, this hasn't worked.

I went here and searched the phrases and
words http://www.online-literature.com/dumas/

and here http://www.online-literature.com/dumas/threemusketeers/ and
waded through all the book looking for the word "cardinal". I figured
that word should be there even if the quote was a little off. Someone
told me she found it in chapter 26. As far as I can tell, Aramis is
described as wearing a calotte. Now this may be the answer. This is
one of the many words I have written down on my scratch paper to check
out. Biretta is a square type hat, and zucchetto means small gourd.

Twenty years after Richelieu is dead so probably not that one. Don't
think Richelieu comes into the Count of Monte Cristo. Perhaps the Man
in the Iron Mask but a search didn't find it.

I did a quick search of the other books with out finding anything.

I thought of the son but don't think Richelieu comes into the Lady of
the Camillias. I didn't find a complete copy of this book online.

111 SPELLING QUESTION! In one of his most famous novels, the French
writer
Alexandre Dumas describes Cardinal Richelieu as 'wearing a cap, as
cardinal's do, similar to a _'. What word, derived from Italian meaning
'cap' or 'small dome', completes that quotation and is a name applied to
a
type of skullcap as mainly worn by Roman Catholic clergy? (This word
must
be spelt correctly!)
