I can't claim to be an authority, or point you to one, either. But by
experience, I would say that those who are more traditional use the King
James Version, (and "Bible Belt" preachers are apt to be more traditional,
then contemporary) then I would say the next most popular is the NIV - New
International Version. After that I would say it would run the gamut.

I was asked yesterday what Bible is used by the Evangelicals in the US 
today.  The patron then added, as a synonym, the Bible Belt.  I'm not sure 
the two terms are synonymous; I don't know if there is one particular 
translation that all evangelicals prefer. I can't think of any source to 
which I have access that will begin to answer this question, so I am passing

it on to you.
