According to The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations, 5th ed, edited by
Elizabeth Knowles (1999): Isaac Babel, 1894--1940, Russian short-story
writer, p.41/1: "Both of us looked on the world as a meadow in May--a meadow
traversed by women and horses." Red Cavalry (1926), 'The Story of a Horse'
translated by Walter Morison.
