[PW] ?Isaac Babel quote

I'm trying to run down the source of a quote from Isaac Babel--according to 
a poem by Maxine Kumin, he described life "as a meadow over which women and 
horses wander." A Google search turned up a review that characterizes Babel 
as "a man who saw life as a 'meadow in May over which women and horses 
wander.'" Any help would be much appreciated.
