Hearing _Hitty_ mentioned reminds me of another wonderful story narrated by a
doll: _Victoria-Bess_ by Brenda (Mrs. Castle Smith) (found in the delightful
anthology _Victorian Doll Stories_). Book-as-character does seem quite fresh,
unlike book-as-universe/world/reality. Speaking of unusual POVs, one of the best
is Ursula LeGuin's short story "The Direction of the Road," whose narrator is an
oak tree.

>>Hello all,
>>
>>My 13-year old daughter has started writing a piece of fiction told from the point of view of a book. Long story short--we see the world through the book's interactions with some of its readers over big chunks of time and space. The book is magical, and has a life of its own, and is able to communicate ideas from one reader to the next, and so on.
>>Does anyone know of storylines such as this--that is, a story from the book's point of view? I'm not sure where to start looking for this answer--the quick-and-dirty google of that phrase revealed only a few dozen hits and nothing applicable. Any suggestions? I'm curious to know how this idea has been addressed by other writers.
