This is also known as "The Cuckoo" or "Peter's Flowing Stream." The
second and third verses that I know do not deal with the cuckoo,
however,
From memory FWIW:
Oh, I went to Peter's flowing spring where the water's so good,
And I heard there the cuckoo as she sang from the wood.
Chorus:
Hol-di-a.
Hol-di-ra-ca-hi, hol-di-ra cuckoo
Hol-di-ra-ca-hi, hol-di-ra cuckoo
Hol-di-ra-ca-hi, hol-di-ra cuckoo
Hol-di-ra-ca-hi, a-ho!
After Easter comes sunny days that will melt all the snow.
Then I'll marry my maiden fair, we'll be happy I know.
Chorus: (add a second "cuckoo")
When I marry my maiden fair what then can I desire?
A home for her tending and some wood for the fire.
Chorus: (add a third "cuckoo")
During the chorus the singers rapidly slap their knees, left, right,
left, right on the first "Hol-di-a." On "Hol-di-ra-ca-hi" the singers
slap their knees with both hands on "Hol-di," clap their hands on
"ra-ca," and snap their fingers on "hi" and "cuckoo." They snap their
fingers twice on "cuckoo, cuckoo" in the second chorus and three times
on "cuckoo, cuckoo, cuckoo" in the third chorus. On "a-ho" the hands
rest on the knees.
There are some songs about the cuckoo on Mudcat Cafe, but no yodeling.
