The ice cream concoction is a pretty good description
of a soda.
An egg cream, on the other hand, is exactly as someone
described it:  Fox's U-Bet Syrup (no substitutes can taste
authentic!), whole milk (in my childhood, it was "extra-rich"
milk) and seltzer or club soda.  That was all -- it was a
simple elixir, the nectar of the gods.
