If one takes the phrases used to describe his invention, it seems to be
describing a device more similar to a player piano than a sound recording
device.  That changes the search somewhat because the technology is
totally different.

The keystrokes of the piano are being captured, not the sound it is
producing.

But I am not sure what that does to help find the name.
