Denny, this may be of little help, but Launoy is an old French spelling
of l'aunaie, an alder grove. It is a common place name in France, but
is also a demesne name. If your man Launoy was a nobleman and he was
sieur de Launoy, then Launoy wouldn't have been his name at all, but
his title.
At least this might be another avenue in which to search for him.
