[PW] ?Lester Maddox question

Hi

 In doing some research on Lester Maddox, Gov of GA 1967-1971, I have seen a 
reference to his handing out Honorary Certificates in the Georgia State Police 
to various individuals, making them "officers." Was a list ever compiled or 
more info provided (in the press?), such as the reason for the bestowals??

   I tried the proQuest NY Times without much success, but perhaps there are 
other possibilities? This must be a needle in a haystack...
