I don't have an answer to the specific question, but I have heard
atrocious attempts at West Virginia accents on network television.
There was one show, fortunately otherwise unremembered, in which a
family of caricatured hillbillies who were supposed to have been from
West Virginia spoke with several different regional accents, one more
North Carolinian, another Mississippian, and, worst of all, one sounding
more like Vivian Leigh's Stella. Your wife likely could speak in an Emma
Goldman accent and not do worse.
