[PW] Nevada first state to outlaw gambling?

I've read (in the Rough Guide to the USA) that Nevada was the first 
state to outlaw gambling.  I would like to use this as an example of how 
futile passing laws can be in the long run; but I'm cautious enough to 
want a more definitive source.

Besides answers, I'd like to know where to find this kind of information.
