Hi,

Just some clarification, as a result of some offlist email with Donna.

In 1982 (during the Alonzo Mann affair), the AP did cite a 1962 death date
for one Jim Conley, he of the Leo Frank case fame.

This is a separate issue in itself, as no one knows where or when Jim
Conley died. The AP was simply repeating a death date given for him by Harry Golden
in his book, A Little Girl is Dead. Unfortunately, this first citation was,
um, fictional. It has never been verified in the least, and it would be a
feather in anyone's cap to get such actual data - many have tried. The last
newspaper references (non-flattering) to Jim Conley (while alive) were in the 1940s.

Anyway, the man I am looking for was Clarence Conley, who lived in Atlanta
for most of his life, born by 1899, and appeared in the last Atlanta City
Directory, for 1960, living on Maple Street NW. It would be great to get a death
notice for him, if the Atlanta newspapers ever get digitized for the period of
the 1960s.

Thanks again.

Allen
