Subject: REPLY #2 RE: [PW] Copyright case Burrow-Giles Lithographic vs. Sarony
Here's another suggestion in addition to one I sent you about New York Public Library Science, Industry and Business Library (SIBL) yesterday.
Since Burrow-Giles Lithographic Co. was a 19th century New York City business, I contacted the NYC Municipal Archives by e-mail and asked where corporate filings for 19th century businesses (which might provide first names of Burrow and Giles) could be found. I used their electronic form at: http://www.nyc.gov/html/records/html/contact/archives.shtml
I received an e-mail response. Below is their response quoted:
"Records of incorporations are held by the New York County Clerk's Division of Old Record, 31 Chambers Street, 7th Floor, NYC 10007. Tel. 212 374-4376. "
Try contacting them to see if they can provide more information about this business including first names of Burrow and Giles.

Subject: [PW] Copyright case Burrow-Giles Lithographic vs. Sarony
The Burrow-Giles Lithographic Co. v. Sarony copyright case was decided
by the Supreme Court March 17, 1884 and granted copyright protection
to photographers. I am trying to locate the first names of the owners
of the Lithographic Company. What were the first names of Burrow and
Giles?
Thanks for any leads,
Barbara Schmidt
