Hello Robin:

Sorry for the delay - I hadn't checked Stumpers mail for a few days.

My husband just sat and translated this for us.  He's Argentinian and they
spoke Yiddish at home so he was able to read this okay in spite of the
messy handwriting (a lesson to all of us for the future).

He said the Yiddish isn't the best, and there are English words thrown in.
It seems to be a Rosh Hashana greeting (Jewish New Year) because of
the date and the end line.

Here is the text approximately (not word for word).

October 14, 1948
My dear brother Willie.

I greet you from the heart.  I am sending you my photograph.  In the
second (next) letter I will send you another photograph.  Answer me and
write what is with your health, and your business, how are you and the
children and is everything alright.

Thanks G-d everything is okay with me.  Your brother who wishes you a
good, happy and healthy year.
