Don

I just got back to my Stumpers email, so sorry for the
delay.

My personal record collection (vinyl LPs and CDs) are
arranged alphabetically by Artist, then by date.
Various artist compilations are slotted by title
within that arrangement. (George Harrison's "Concert
for Bangaladesh" would be between say Commander Cody
and Dire Straits) The only exceptions to this rule are
by She Who Must Be Obeyed who insists that all
"classical recordings be separate so she can browse
them easily when looking for something. And of course,
when anyone but me plays something only God knows
where it gets filed or just left.

My video and DVD collections are not nearly as
extensive and we have arranged them alphsbetically by
title - unless there is some reason to put films
together, such as SWMBO's insistance that all Jane
Austin films be together. (And she has noted that even
with some good performances that dreadful new
production of "Pride and Predjudice" will never be
allowed in the house.)

Professionally, I would say it depends on your
collection. I've have seen libraries where feature
films were alpha by title, except for collections of
important directors. Kubreck, Hitchcock, Coppola, but
not John Ford or Martin Scorsese. That particular
system leaves too much to the whim of the AV librarian
or (he says with a shudder) the cataloger.

Good luck and let us know your decision.

Dexter
