This may be slightly off-topic, but it relates to a similar type of 
all-too-common problem situation:

When I remarried, my ex-wife and my current wife moved in overlapping social 
settings, and managed to become almost-friends. The question was, how to 
refer to each other.

The first time the question raised itself, my ex cheerfully said, "This is 
my ex-husband's wife...". You could hear the pin drop.

After some discussion, they defused any future such situation by agreeing to 
introduce each other as "Sisters-in-law".
