So the Red House was first published in Harper's Bazar.  And as 
somebody else posted to the list, the Bastable children were indeed 
found in Pall Mall magazine.  The NY Times, referred to Pall Mall in 
one mention as "an English monthly magazine," but later specified -- 
well actually, a letter to the editor specified-- that it was in Pall 
Mall that Nesbit's Bastable children were first seen-- early 1898, as 
I recall-- my Proquest is down for maintenance and I looked this up earlier...

[And by the way, I found "The Marden Mystery" syndicated in the 
Boston Globe beginning in mid January 1897.]
