[PW] Story with 2 Boars

Collective Brain-

I have not been having any luck in identifying a story that a patron 
read while in the 5th grade, circa 1985. The book may be of older 
vintage, but it dealt with a man who travels with two boars (chosen as 
companions because of their fierceness or strength). It might have been 
a fantasy, but the patron believed it to be set in modern times on 
earth. Any ideas? TIA.
