Other possibilities:
- Novelizations of Star Wars movies, and quite a few Star Trek novels
("Imzadi" by Peter David is a good example)
- Robert Heinlein's "Glory Road" and "Variable Star"
- Frank Herbert's "Dune" (several love stories among the many subplots)
- Joan Vinge's "The Snow Queen" (as one reviewer's blurb puts it, "young
lovers tragically separated AND happy endings") and its sequel, "The
Summer Queen"; less so, the middle book of that series, "World's End"
- Kathy Tyers's "Firebird" trilogy ("Firebird", "Fusion Fire", and "Crown
of Fire"), and "Shivering World"
- Anne McCaffrey's "The Ship Who Sang" might qualify; so might her
Harperhall trilogy ("Dragonsong", "Dragonsinger", and "Dragondrums"),
which are especially geared toward teens (although the love stories
involved are secondary to the main plot); as are "The Rowan" and its
sequel "Damia" by her.
- Jane Yolen's "Cards of Grief"
- Elizabeth Moon's "Once a Hero", "Rules of Engagement", and "Change of
Command"
- Nicole Luiken's "Silver Eyes"
- almost any sf book by Catherine Asaro
- "Be More Chill" by Ned Vizzini
- "Moonwind" and "The Patchwork People" by Louise Lawrence
- Mary Logue's "Dancing with an Alien"
- "Dr. Gravity" by Dennis Haseley
- "The Outsider" by Melinda Metz
- "Goofbang Value Daze" by Julian F. Thompson
- Philip Reeve's series "The Hungry City Chronicles" ("Mortal Engines",
"Predator's Gold", "Infernal Devices")
- Ursula Le Guin's "The Beginning Place" (more fantasy than sf)
- "The Transall Saga" by Gary Paulsen
- "Enchantress from the Stars" by Sylvia Engdahl
- "Waterbound" by Jane Stemp
Some of these are recommendations are from my own reading as a teen; some
are from a NoveList for "science fiction" and "romance" at a "Young Adult"
reading level. Note that they include differing degrees of romance -- in
some it's THE major theme, while in others it's lightly touched on. Also,
not all the love stories end happily.
Also, depending on the teen in question, some of these may be rather hefty
fare.
Hope this information helps --
