You could routinely check with the Library of Congress (LOC) search. 
Publishers often submit CIP (cataloging in publication) information 
months before the publication date.

You could check on works by an author. The listings typically are topped 
by the most recent book. I then search by ISBN at Amazon and get a 
projected publication date.
