The very first edition of the Bobbs-Merrill "Fountainhead' is identified by the following:
  1. Red cloth
2. "First Edition" on the copyright page
3. Dust jacket has Bobbs-Merrill's spring list of books on the back

The print run for the first red was 7,500

The first green cloth edition also says First Edition on the copyright page, but was second issue/state. (the one I have, drats)

My recollection is that the firest editon was really only a half sized
printing of 5,000, so it is very rare indeed.

I also seem to recall that it was printed on non-standard sized pages,
but I can't recollect the exact size, sorry.

I have one that I
_think_ is a first edition, a little smaller than the other editions,
but, again, I am not sure, though i could give you the details.

Thanks!!!
