Phalbe,
This map:

Shows the area around Aitape after the 1998 tsunami. Since there are
several named rivers one of them might be the elusive Drinimuor.

Subject: [PW] WWII battle at the Driniumor River at Aitape, Papua New
Guinea
Folks,
There was a tough battle at the Driniumor River, at Aitape, Papua New
Guinea during WWII. The Allies captured the airport and many Japanese
soldiers, according to the _Merriam-Webster Geographical Dictionary_.
However, there is no Driniumor River any more. What happened to it? A
Google search brings up a *suggestion* that it was renamed "Aitape
River." M-W Geog. Dict. doesn't mention the river under either name.
An Australian friend of mine, with whom I once worked in Papua New
Guinea, doesn't know any more about it than I do (and he's on
vacation, anyway).
Does anyone know anything about the river? I don't need info about
the WWII battle. I just want to know what happened to the name of the
river.
Thanks.
