Don't know if this helps, but I think 'palimpsest' is closely related,
conceptually at least, to 'pentimento,' though that word is more about
painting then parchment.

I know what I think I know about this from reading Lillian Hellman's
novel _Pentimento_, which is, of course, mid-20th century American,
though I think she was an Anglophile of some sort.

A long shot for sure...

Subject: [PW] Palimpsest - 18th & 19th century - Britain

Hi,
I am helping a faculty member finding resources about palimpsest or
its usage in 18th and 19th century British literature.
I have checked MLA but maybe I am not using the right terms to search.
Any ideas of what search terms to use?
Is there any other database or print resource I can consult or suggest
to her and her student assistant to look at?

  Thanks,
  Sally
