The entire run of the Index to How To Do It Information is now available
on the web, at http://www.nleindex.com/. It's not the easiest thing in
the world to use, but I did find this reference there:
World globe and stand made entirely out of wood. A complicated project
requiring the construction of a special jig to cut the segments for the
sphere.
FINE WOODWORKING #14 Jan-Feb 1979 pg. 61
We don't subscribe so I can't check to see if this is the right article.
Hope this helps.

Index to How To Do It Information (Norman Lathrop) lists :
"WOODTURNING Global turning. Make a small sphere fro wood and equip it
with an axle and stand to form a miniature world globe #82 Dec 1999
p.37.
My Index to How To Do It Information 1963-1989 vol 2. is missing so I'm
not able to search further back.
