Sorry about my previous post. I have been having trouble sending. I
know it's on my end. So I thought I would try a cut and paste into
another request. But I forgot the cut and paste part!

Here is what I meant to send:
I am looking for information on the cathedral at Benevento, Italy, bombed
by the allies in 1943. I especially need information on a piece found in
the
rubble. I hope I don't start an international incident with this, but my
father
picked up a little lion's head in the rubble of either the cathedral or a
fountain.
It is a 3D piece about 3 inches by 3 inches by three inches of a lion's
face, ears
and mane from the front.
It has something in its mouth. It has been painted (?) green. I have an
article from
Life Magazine, July 24, 1944, about the bombed cathedral. There is a
picture of the
upper part of the cathedral door which had scenes from the New Testament,
along with other
depictions. There are lion faces depicted on the door panels, but they
don't look like
my lion, exactly. Is there anyone out there who knows anything more about
this and could
help me more exactly pinpoint where this came from?
I have talked with a priest here who said that getting it back to Italy and
where it belongs
would be virtually impossible.
Can anyone help me or direct me to other pictures, etc?
