[PW] question for any British wombats

I am reviewing the US edition of a novel by a British author. I realize
that Americanisms creep into languages all over the world, but the
narrator's language still seems odd to me. The narrator is English, 23 and
a recent Cambridge dropout.

She uses phrases like "graduate summa cum laude" instead of "get a first"
and also has used the phrase "baby boomers" at least once.

Those phrases and terms seem very un-British to me.

Thoughts on this?
