Is there any way, just by looking at the item, to tell if a book is a
print-on-demand copy? The reason I inquire is that I have just bought a
copy of a 1998 book from an online bookseller that is a pod copy. I know
because the original, and only, printing of the book included color
plates and the current copy has the plates in b&w. New copies of the book
are listed on the publisher's Web site with no mention of print-on-demand
or the colorlessness of the plates.
