Could this be James Clavell's "The Children's Story"? In it, a soft-spoken
new teacher unexpectedly shows up one morning at an elementary school
(glossing over what has happened to the old one). For an entire morning, she
leads the class through a word-by-word deconstruction of the Pledge of
Allegiance. IIRC, there is no flag-burning at the end, just the hint that
the teacher has turned her class away from the principles of  democracy and
toward Communism.
