It would be worth asking where the patron learned about the song. Was it heard on the radio but not seen in print? When I worked at a choral sheet music store, we would get lots of choir directors whose pastor had heard a song on the radio and asked the choir director to find it for the choir. Many of these songs were never published, and we had to explain that to our customers, who I think still thought we were idiots for not knowing where to order them.
(Back story: that was the year that one of my jobs involved conducting rehearsals in Carnegie Hall. When customers glared at me in disgust and disappointment, I could smile and think, "I know you think I'm an idiot because I can't find you a copy of 'Jesus is like butter,' but what you don't know is that behind this counter, my hand in my pocket is literally holding the key to Carnegie Hall.")
Hope this helps,
